Fira de Barcelona and social sustainability

Fira de Barcelona is one of the most important trade fair institutions in Europe and an international benchmark in the organization of events, congresses and professional trade shows. In addition, it has more than 400,000 m² of exhibition space, which allows it to host high-impact events every year, such as the Mobile World Congress, Alimentaria or Smart City Expo.

Thanks to this activity, Barcelona has established itself as a city of business, talent and global projection. At the same time, Fira de Barcelona maintains a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability and internationalization, thus driving the economic and business growth of the territory.

Commitment to social sustainability

In this context, Fira de Barcelona’s Sustainability Department works to activate social sustainability. To do so, it focuses on three main lines of action: health, sport and well-being; inclusion, equality and education; and support for entrepreneurship.

Through these pillars, it promotes projects that improve people’s quality of life and strengthen the social fabric. It also supports initiatives that connect the business sector with the needs of the community.

2026 strategy and territory

Looking ahead to 2026, the institution aims to define a new alliance strategy. For this reason, it is working to strengthen its territorial action and increase social impact in its main areas of activity: Sants, Montjuïc, Poble Sec and L’Hospitalet.

The goal is, on the one hand, to identify collaboration opportunities with local organizations, companies and social actors. On the other hand, it seeks to promote new community projects and joint initiatives that generate tangible benefits for citizens.

Community development and social impact

Regarding community development, work is carried out through projects aimed at fostering an active and informed citizenry. Consequently, priority is given to initiatives that promote participation, social cohesion and the empowerment of people in their local environment.

Finally, this strategy makes it possible to design a map of social actions and opportunities for 2026. In this way, Fira de Barcelona strengthens its role as an agent of transformation, combining trade fair activity, social sustainability and community development across the territory.
